We got to ‘Borders’ in Birmingham city centre about an hour before the signing, as luckily there is also a ‘Starbucks’ in there, so we thought we’d go for a caramel macchiato (It’s got to be done!!)
The staff were really strict that Nigella would only sign copies of ‘Nigella Express’ and also, we must produce a receipt of purchase! I’ve never experienced such strict rules for a signing, but I suppose they just wanted to make sure that we’d bought the books there and not got them cheaper from somewhere else.
Thankfully, Eleanor, my friend, had already had a run in with the super-strict staff on the phone, and had emailed admin at Nigella.com, to make her aware that we would probably like other things signed too…admin said that it was no trouble at all for Nigella.
I bought a copy of ‘Feast’ from Borders, and the girl had to go and check with her supervisor to see if Nigella would be allowed to sign it (?!?!)
We eventually got to the front of the queue, I pushed Eleanor in front of me, knowing that Nigella would remember her, from other signings, which she did (how nice is that!)
We hung around for a while chatting, and the security man told Nigella we were from the forum and would like photos taken with her, she was more than happy to do that, she’s just as gracious and elegant as ever!
Nigella had on a dark blue short sleeved, scoop necked knitted jersey top, with the obligatory black skirt, she also had on some cute wedge heeled black boots, and also had an oversized mettalic pewter/silver coloured bag (trendy huh?) under the table.
Her skin was flawless, but I must say, even though it sounds unkind that she has put on more than a few pounds sice I last saw her. Her waist is still tiny though – must be all the NE food she’s been testing!!
After the signing she posed for photos with us, which was nice of her. She even managed to answer some questions for a journalist who had come to do a story on her from the local paper.
I looked under the table but didn’t notice a flask full of pea soup or knee high socks, have I been watching ‘Nigella Express’ too closely?
It was a good day, I got my bag signed too – the one I won on the Nigella forum competition! 🙂
What a lovely day that must have been! You look great Anna.
