I’m a bit of a gadget mad gal! I love purchasing new equipment. It makes me happyyyyyyyyyy!! 😀
I’ve recently been given the opportunity to fall in love with my slow cooker all over again, after allowing it to languish unloved on top of a kitchen cupboard for a fair while, because my attentions have been turned obsessively to my new gadget – the Nutribullet.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m a really poor veggie eater! 😦
Not for me bowls of cold salad (unless it’s Summer) but then again I’m not really one for cooked veg either, unless it’s covered by piping hot gravy!
So, enter the Nutribullet, a super-duper high speed blender which ‘extracts’ the nutrients from vegetables, fruit, seeds, whatever you care to throw into it.
I don’t really like ‘bitter’ greens either, but I’ve found they can be cleverly disguised once they’ve been blended with other milder tasting vegetables and/or fruit. And I love the fact that I’m getting the ‘fibre’ part of the veg/fruit too, not just the juice!
Pumpkin, maple syrup, flax and chia Smoothie
3 tbsp pumpkin purée (I used Libby’s)
250 ml coconut milk eg Koko brand (from chiller section, next to the milk)
1-2 tbsp maple syrup (depending how much of a sweet tooth you have!)
2tbsp milled flax seed
2tbsp chia seeds
Enough water to give a pleasing texture.
Simply place all the ingredients in your nutribullet and blend.
If you don’t have a nutribullet or other high powered blender, you may prefer to mill your flax and chia before placing in the blender, to ensure the nutrients inside them are more readily available for the body’s use.
This is an ideal opportunity to use those super foods you’re accruing – maca, spirulina, bee pollen, cacao nibs? Cool! Throw them in! 🙂
Notes:
1. Avocado and/or banana give a ‘creamy’ texture.
2. Start off with small amounts of strong tasting vegetables eg Beetroot or kale, until you get used to the taste of them.
3. Apple seeds should not be used in a smoothie as they contain poisonous compounds.
4. You can add sweetness by using 1-2 dried dates, or apple juice as the liquid part of your smoothie.
5. Enjoy experimenting, while knowing you’re getting in your veg and fruit quota! 🙂
